Growing Together: A Community Tree Project at Jackson Elementary
Today was a beautiful day of creativity, connection, and mindfulness with the students of Jackson Elementary in Altadena. Under the warm sunshine, we gathered outdoors to co-create a Community Tree—a reflection of our shared values, hopes, and growth as a collective.
The students sat in a circle, surrounding a large canvas tree laid out on the pavement. Each child contributed their own uniquely decorated leaf, writing or drawing something meaningful to them—an intention, a kind word, or a personal dream. As we placed the leaves on the branches, we talked about what it means to be part of a community, supporting and uplifting each other like the roots of a tree.
It was inspiring to see their excitement, thoughtfulness, and artistic expression shine through. This project not only brought students together but also reinforced a sense of belonging and mindfulness—key themes we explore through Upward Together’s work in art and wellness.
As the wind gently rustled the trees around us, it was a reminder that we were all growing together. The Community Tree will remain a symbol of connection and creativity, a beautiful reflection of the students’ voices and shared experiences. Our time together was inspired by the prompt Restore, Rebuild, Rise. This project, with Pasadena Unified School District, is for the No Boundaries exhibition with Artworx LA on Friday, March 14.
Thank you, Jackson Elementary, for your open hearts and bright spirits! 🌿✨
